Hanoi [Vietnam], February 20: With this achievement, Hari Won's husband's new film project became the highest-grossing Vietnamese film in history in less than 24 hours. Sharing about this milestone, Tran Thanh expressed: "A great achievement on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Tran Thanh and Tho Oi (Oh, Little Rabbit) thank you to our viewers for your love." Previously, Tran Thanh also announced that the Lunar New Year film he directed had reached 130,000 advance ticket sales, becoming the Vietnamese film with the highest number of advance tickets sold to date.
Tran Thanh's Lunar New Year film achievements
According to Box Office Vietnam data , the film " Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) is currently far ahead of its competitors in terms of revenue. As of 10 PM on February 18th, Tran Thanh's film had grossed over 34.9 billion VND, leading the box office with over 332,000 tickets sold. Meanwhile, "Nha Ba Toi Mot Phong" ( My Father's House, One Room) earned 11.4 billion VND, "Bau Vat Troi Cho" (Heaven's Treasure) earned 6.3 billion VND, and " Mui Pho" (The Scent of Pho) earned 4.3 billion VND.
Following the huge success of "Mai ," the film's extensive theatrical release over the past period has inadvertently sparked speculation that Tran Thanh received preferential treatment, or even bought or secured screening slots. In response to these rumors, the director affirmed that there was no such special privilege.
"Tran Thanh doesn't have any family ties to any theater owner that would give him preferential treatment in scheduling screenings, overshadowing others. I'm just an ordinary vendor, bringing my goods to the theater and begging them to sell them. I don't have any connections with any theater owner to receive any special treatment," he expressed.
According to Tran Thanh, "cinemas need money to run, to pay staff, to make a profit, and to cover the costs of seasons when films don't sell well, so they will only show films that sell well." Therefore, he emphasized: "So don't say Tran Thanh is snatching slots; I don't have that kind of magic. Tran Thanh doesn't have three heads and six arms to push his way through theaters and say, 'Hey, show my film!'"
"Rabbit, Oh My Rabbit " is a psychological drama film that explores seemingly peaceful relationships that conceal deep-seated hurt, conflict, and hidden inner struggles. The film adopts a restrained storytelling approach, focusing on the characters' psychological development, placing them in situations where they must confront themselves and the "masks" of modern life. Besides Tran Thanh, the film features a star-studded cast including Van Mai Huong , Phao, LyLy, Tran Quoc Anh, Vinh Dam, and others.
