Libya postpones parliament elections to Jan. 2022

Oct 06, 2021

Tripoli (Libya), October 6: Libya's House of Representatives (parliament) on Tuesday decided to postpone the legislative elections to January 2022 instead of Dec. 24, 2021.
"The legislative elections will be held 30 days after the presidential election of the country," said Abdullah Blehig, spokesman of the House of Representatives.
He stressed the keenness of the parliament to ensure that the president will be directly elected by the people, given what the country has gone through over the past several years due to the lack of a president.
The elections are part of a roadmap adopted by the UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).
Earlier on Tuesday, Libya's High Council of State rejected the parliament election law approved by the House of Representatives.
