Iran detects 500 kg of illicit drugs coming from Afghanistan

Tehran (Iran), September 5: Iran's Customs on Sunday announced the discovery of 500 kg of illicit drugs coming from Afghanistan, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported.
The Legal and Customs Supervision Deputy Farideh Zobeidi said that the shipment detected at the eastern Mahirud border was one of the six largest illicit drugs shipments discovered this year.
As many as 500 packages of illicit drugs weighing 500 kg were detected from a tanker truck driven by an Afghan national on Sunday morning at the Mahirud border, according to ISNA.
Iran is at the forefront of the fight against drug trafficking given its location at the crossroads of international drug smuggling from Afghanistan to Europe.
