Iowa caucuses results uncertain despite recanvass

Feb 19, 2020

Iowa (USA) Feb 19: In the US presidential race, the results of the Democratic Party caucuses in the state of Iowa remain uncertain, despite a recanvass.
The caucuses on February 3 were the first in the contest to become the Democratic Party nominee, but they were beset with vote counting problems.
The results announced on February 6, with 100 percent of the votes counted, put former South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg slightly ahead of Senator Bernie Sanders. Both campaigns asked for a recanvass.
The Iowa Democratic Party announced on Tuesday that Buttigieg remains in the lead, with Sanders in second place, although the figures for some precincts have been revised.
The Associated Press reports that the Sanders campaign is planning to ask for a partial recount of the Iowa caucus results.
Therefore local media are still reluctant to declare a clear winner, more than two weeks after the caucus meetings.
