America bucks before extreme weather

Jul 14, 2023

Washington [US], July 14: A prolonged heatwave is covering a large swath of the southern US, stretching from California to southern Florida, with temperatures in the coming days forecast to break all records, The Guardian reports.
The most alarming increase in temperature is TP.Phoenix (Arizona state), which has experienced 13 consecutive days with temperatures above 43 degrees Celsius. According to the US Weather Center, warm sea water is creating humid air, factors leading to the situation of only "sunshine and hot". Many Americans are advised to stay indoors and follow heat avoidance guidelines.
The increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather across the United States is the result of climate change, meteorologists warn.
While sweltering temperatures blanket many areas, several states in the northeastern US have failed to recover from historic flooding in recent days. Flooding has damaged roads and threatened people's drinking water. Currently, the city government of Montpelier (Vermont state) has asked people to boil water before using it until further notice.
Extreme weather also threatens the city of Chicago (Illinois state), where at least 8 tornadoes hit 4 districts of the city, causing many airports to be forced to cancel flights.
